Rural and Regional Health Service Planning; Metropolitan Health Services Planning
Service Plan, for Beechworth Health Service
Beechworth Health Service commissioned Biruu.Health to complete a Health Services Plan for the period 2017 to 2022. The plan was based on an overview of the demographics and health status of Indigo Shire, which is the catchment area for Beechworth Health Service. The plan was also informed by consultation with key stakeholders and consumer representatives from within Beechworth Health Service and within the community.
Service Plan Review, for Albury Wodonga Health Service
After several years in operation, Albury Wodonga Health commissioned Biruu and partners to review the initial service plan and take into account new population forecasts, changing policy settings and the experience of operating a cross-border health service. The service plan review provided detailed analysis and recommendations for each specialty.
Strategic Insights, for East Grampians Health Service
East Grampians Health Service provides primary care, acute health, aged care and urgent care services for people living in the Rural City of Ararat. Biruu facilitated a strategic planning discussion, where Board members and executive staff review issues that are likely to impact on the performance and/or viability of the service during the coming year.
Business Cases and Commercial Analysis
Echuca Regional Hospital Business case, for Echuca Regional Health
Biruu was engaged to prepare a business case to support Echuca Regional Health’s submission to the Rural Hospital Infrastructure Fund. Echuca Regional Health sought funding to construct a purpose-designed local Cancer and Wellness Centre to allow local residents to receive quality care in their area, reducing the disruption caused to them by long travel times to appropriate treatment centres.
Frances Perry House Re-Lease, for Royal Women’s Hospital
The Royal Women’s Hospital (RWH) leases the top two floors of the RWH building in Parkville to operate Frances Perry House, a private obstetric and special care hospital. The Board agreed that the re-lease of the premises must be conducted under a competitive process that will seek formal lease proposals from a number of parties that will then be assessed on their merits against a set of agreed criteria.
Biruu was engaged to lead a market sounding, prepare a transaction strategy and then manage procurement of a private hospital operator.
Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Transactional Advice, for Border Medical Oncology
Border Medical Oncology (a consortium of Medical Oncologists) were in engaged in a commercial negotiation for access rights to the new Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre when they engaged Biruu for commercial advice. Biruu developed a strategy by which they could find common ground with the health service in a way that secured both party's essential interest in ensuring access for the community to good local cancer services.
Specialist Health Service Planning
Grampians Region Chemotherapy Service Plan, for Ballarat Health Services
On behalf of Grampians Integrated Cancer Services (GICS), Ballarat Health Services engaged Biruu.Health to develop the Grampians Region Chemotherapy Service Plan. The plan provided GICS and its member organisations with a clear picture of how the cancer service system operated in the Grampians region, highlighted useful intelligence, emphasised key insights and provided a roadmap of critical enabling factors to ensure the regional chemotherapy service system maximises its resources and is appropriately configured to continue to improve the outcomes for cancer patients in the region.
Hume Region Palliative Care Scoping Project, for Hume Region Palliative Care Consortium
Biruu.Health was engaged to develop an effective and sustainable service model for access to and provision of specialist palliative care services across the Hume region, including the roles, responsibilities and relationships of organisations involved in the delivery of specialist palliative care. These include specialist community, consultancy and inpatient palliative care services.
Major Upgrade of The Geelong Hospital: Full Business Case, for the Department of Health and Human Services
Biruu.Health was commissioned by Barwon Health and the Department of Health and Human Services to develop a business case for The Geelong Hospital. The redevelopment addressed increased demand for hospital services arising from population growth in the Barwon Health catchment, limits to growth imposed by capacity constraints, and ineffective models of care at the Geelong Hospital as a result of obsolete layout of clinical services.
The Business Case sought investment from the State Government to complement funds previously committed by the Commonwealth Government through its Health and Hospitals Fund for integrated cancer services, and funds allocated by the Council of Australia Governments for additional sub-acute services.
Models of Care
Model of care for aged services, for Rochester and Elmore District Health Service
Rochester and Elmore Health Service commissioned Biruu.Health to complete an enhanced model of aged care for the Rochester district. The project included consideration of new models of service delivery and possible investment in new and enhanced facilities for older people.
Wantirna Health Precinct Master Plan and Residential Aged Care Development, for Silver Thomas Hanley
Biruu was engaged to support the translation of Service Plan outcomes to the initial Master Plan design of the new Wantirna Health Development. Biruu's work included critical review of the Health Service Plan and recommendations for enhancements; consideration of the implications of the service planning framework for the clinical operation models; and formulation of an Enhanced Service Plan.
Austin Health: Program Logic model for General Medicine, for Austin Health
Biruu supported Austin Health to consider the program logic for changes to the model of care in General Medicine. Biruu conducted consultations, facilitated workshops to develop a program logic and prepared an evaluation program.
